How this family of medicine works
Arousal makes your body release a chemical messenger that opens up the arteries in the penis. Blood flows in faster than it can drain out, pressure builds, and you get an erection. An enzyme called PDE5 clears that messenger away, which is how an erection ends.
Both medicines slow that enzyme down. The messenger lasts longer, so the arousal you already have goes further. That is the whole mechanism. It also explains the two things men are most often surprised by: it does nothing without arousal, and it does not increase desire.
